about

Starting out as a solo project by singer Frederik Gøtzsche, Doula’s sound quickly evolved into a potent cocktail of hard-hitting drums and punchy bass lines, drenched in ambient guitars and melodic synth riffs. Most songs have an instant bewitching romp that all lays the foundations for enormous central choruses. It’s clever, humorous, morbid, and irresistible - all at the same time. Combining the new-wave nostalgia from the likes of David Bowie, Gary Neuman and Orange Juice, with a much more contemporary and post-pandemic punk mentality. Doula utilised the lockdown to fine-tune their upcoming album ‘Constantly Repeating’ channeling aspects of his own medical background working in psychiartry,
Gøtzsche’s lyrics involve struggling characters such as addicts, serial killers, and people caught in a quagmire where they are deemed unfit for society.

Produced by Brian Batz (Sleep Party People) and multi-grammy award winning producer and mix engineer, Eduardo De La Paz (Arcade Fire, New Order), the follow-up single ‘Constantly Repeating’, out on the 12th November, conveys the longing we sometimes feel of cutting loose from the repetitive rituals of our everyday life. From the familiarity of our daily routine and surrounding faces, to the clambering over the same pavements, the lack of contrast from one day to the next can spawn the urge to riot against conformity and purely go bonkers. Suffering from a psychosis, the mind of the character in ‘Constantly Repeating’ truly runs
wild as they transcend all monotony. This is further expressed by the building intensity of the saxophones as they violently dissolve into chaos. The song itself questions how often we find ourselves caught between a daring impulse and logical reasoning.
